The Burmese is a
medium sized cat with a broad chest and a heavy muscular
body. The mature sable coat is very
dark sable brown in color with no white markings, barring,
or lighter under coat.Kittens are lighter in color and
can take up to two years to reach a mature coat. The coat texture is silky and
close lying.Other
acceptable colors of Burmese are Champagne,
Blue, and Platinum. The Panthat breeding program
occasionally produces colors other than sable.
The eyes are
large, round and gold to yellow in color. The head type varies from pug
with a short broad muzzle and a prominent nose break to
longer muzzle with a gentler break.
Burmese are
“people” cats who require affection and rule the house with
a velvet paw. They can be quite vocal with a
soft chirping voice.Active even in to old age they
love to play with a paper bag or ball and can sometimes be
taught to fetch. They are generally healthy and
easy to care for and often live into the late teens. The somewhat pug face
predisposes them to snoring, sneezing, and eye discharge but
this usually does not represent illness.
